Afternoon Activities

After lunch, each week day afternoon, our students participate in a wide variety of fun and challenging activities. Our experienced leaders and enthusiastic assistants ensure that, whatever the weather or chosen activity, all the students enjoy themselves and get the most from their experiences. Many of our previous summer school students have taken the opportunity to try out a new challenge, be it sporty or artistic.

Students who choose Sailing are able to improve their technical and practical sailing skills at our own school harbour on Lake Constance. It is essential that these students are good swimmers and that they have some previous dinghy sailing experience, in order to gain the most from this course.

A new afternoon activitiy for 2009 is the Water Sports option.  Here we offer a mixed fun and sporty programme mainly out on the lake. Students will experience a variety of activities depending on the weather, including canoeing, water-skiing and sailing in our cutter ‚Sophia’.

Outdoor Leisure is a more relaxed programme for those who like to spend time outdoors without having to work up too much of a sweat! For this activity our leader will introduce students to some nearby cultural sights as well as going swimming, walking, and cycling in the local area.

In contrast, for the Outdoor Adventure activity it is essential that students have excellent physical fitness. Mountain biking, abseiling and water-skiing are just a few of the activities on offer in this very rigorous and challenging outdoor programme for our very sporty students.

Students choosing to play Tennis will enjoy improving their skills on our excellent astroturf courts at the college campus. Our experienced and friendly coaches are able to encourage both beginners and improvers to improve their game. A tournament for the group at the end of the week is a highlight!

Participants of our very popular Rock Climbing activiy climb in both a climbing hall in the nearby town of Radolfzell and in the picturesque Danube Valley during this introductory course. No experince is necessary, but no fear of heights and good physical fitness are essential! Students taking this activity will have the opportunity to be assessed for their ‚Top Rope’ climbing licence and are also then eligble to participate in the Rock Climbing Weekend Excursion.

For the more artistic, we offer a Sculpture course. Here students will work through the whole process of designing, creating and firing their own unique and interesting clay sculptures. There will also be an opportunity to work with stone. At the end of the programme students can take their sculptures home with them.

Students are also able to develop new artistic skills by participating in the Art and Design course. The leader is an experienced local artist and teacher who engages the students through a variety of media, including watercolour painting, drawing with charcoal, photography and jewellery making.
