Awarding of scholarships

Talent is a gift - and a duty

Thanks to the donations given by former pupils, parents and friends of the school, it is possible for Schule Schloss Salem to award scholarship to approximately 20 percent of its pupils, every year.

We expect the applicants for a scholarship to set themselves high standards and, apart from doing well in their schooling, to derive enjoyment from applying their skills in helping to structure our community life at the boarding school.

Scholarships are an award and therefore the names of the scholarship holders at the School are made public.

We are awarding the following scholarships for School Year 2011/2012:

  • the Hohenfels Scholarships for forms 5 to 7

The School in Hohenfels is the Salem junior, Lower School level where about 80 girls and boys in Forms 5 to 7 live and learn in an old knights' castle.

  • the Heinrich Blendinger Scholarships for Forms 8 to 10 of the "Abitur" stream, and Forms 8 to 10 of the English-speaking stream

The pupils at the Middle School live and learn in Schloss Salem.

As Headmaster, Dr. Heinrich Blendinger directed Schule Schloss Salem from 1934 to 1943, in the spirit of its founders. It was due to him that Salem was able to survive with a minimum of compromises until almost the end of the national socialist area. A scholarship holding his name clearly shows that specialised knowledge and particularly virtues such as honesty, political wisdom and humanity are encouraged at Salem.

  • the Salem College Scholarships for Forms 12 and IB Year 1

Salem International College accomodates the two final school years of the "Abitur" stream and the International Baccalaureate. The 340 pupils of both these school systems live and learn together at Schloss Spetzgart and Campus Härlen.

Here you can find information on the scholarship amounts, the application requirements, the application procedure and the application form.

The application deadline for School Year 2010/2011 is end of January 2011. A complete set of all the documents must reach us by this date.

We shall invite the best-suited candidates to a Selection Meeting. These Selection Meetings will take place from April 8 to 10, 2011 at the respective locations of the school.

The DORNIER-Stiftung (foundation) similarly awards scholarships for special achievment for Forms 9 to 12.
