Schule Schloss Salem elects new school board

At the head is the journalist and long-time editor-in-chief of Die Zeit, Professor Robert Leicht.

The new Schule Schloss Salem board was elected unanimously on 19th June by the Internatsvererien, the 50-member electing body of the school.  Robert Leicht was elected to lead the board.

Professor Robert Leicht was a student at Salem from 1954 to 1963.  After completing a commercial traineeship in Berlin, he studied Law in Saarbrücken.  He was a leader-writer at the Süddeutschen Zeitung from 1970 to 1985.  In 1986 he became political editor of Die Zeit’s Wochenzeitung, and in 1992 he took on the role of editor-in-chief of Die Zeit, a position he held until 1997.  From 1999 to 2009, Prof. Leicht served as president of the Evangelical Academy of Berlin (or leave untranslated??) and, as honorary professor, taught at the University of Erfurt.

Joining Robert Leicht on the new board are Old-Salemer, Till Schreiter, as Treasurer, and Dr Constantin Beier as Secretary.  The other members of the board include Old-Salemer and lawyer, Gesa Curtuis-Stollenwerk and the long-time teacher and educational administrator at the renowned boarding school, Dieter Plate.

After his election, Robert Leicht promised that the new board would do all it could to restore a climate of “creative calm” in the school.

Representatives of the press are invited to attend a press conference at 2.30 p.m. on 25th June in the Office of the Principal.
