„Germany 2020: Diminished?!“
The German population is shrinking; we are becoming older and older; the pension scheme is about to collapse. The terrible news regarding the demographic changes are increasing steadily and draw a gloomy picture of the German future.
But what do young people of today think about the future of Germany especially in respect to this important topic? This was the question of the media contest "Germany 2020: Diminished?!" Adolescents aged 15-25 years were invited to describe their visions of the future in a creative form.
The competition was initiated by Jugendpresse Deutschland, the association of young media makers, supported by the Federal Ministry of Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth. From 245 articles the best were choosen by a jury consisting of journalists. The winners were invited to Berlin where they were awarded by State Minister Gerd Hoofe.
The jury explained its choice as follows:
"Jonas Rosenbrück managed to formulate the fears of today's youth regarding the demographic changes in an expressive way. His literary composition of the subject appears almost kafkaesque. The story about Mr. Young and Mr. Altenhohenwürt shows the great writing skills of Jonas Rosenbrück. By telling a story in the story, he managed to captivate the readers attention and by means of his negative vision to formulate a monition to all of us."
