The Lower School Hohenfels Castle

The mediaeval Hohenfels Castle, in which Salem’s Lower School has been housed for more than 75 years, stands high up on a hill 12 kilometres from Lake Constance. More than 80 girls and boys of years 5 to 7 live and learn there now, amidst the most beautiful countryside, and with many domestic animals in the castle grounds. A gym, a climbing room, an all-weather sports field and the open-air swimming pool 10 minutes away provide the children with opportunities for many kinds of sport.

Hohenfels also has an observatory, a greenhouse and a school garden, and there is a log cabin in the woods, and an area with huts built by the pupils. All this creates a unique atmosphere which has an inspiring effect on the children, encouraging their natural curiosity and leading to carefree play, discovery and experience.

Schule Schloss Salem offers children of Years 4 to 6 many opportunities to get to know Hohenfels eg Introductory days, during which they can even attend lessons. Deeper insights into the boarding school routine are possible at the Summer camp, in which the pupils spend two eventful weeks at the castle.
